Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Ivrit Yalla (“we,” “our,” “us”) is a Hebrew-learning app for iPhone, iPad, and Android. We do not require you to create an account, register an email address, or sign in. This Privacy Policy explains the limited information we do collect and how you control it.

2. Information We Collect

Information you give us

• First name (optional) — entered during onboarding so the app can greet you and so other players can see who you are on multiplayer leaderboards. You may use any name, including a nickname.
• Messages you send — when you use the in-app “Chat with Admin” feature, the text and your name are saved so we can reply.
• Display names you set inside multiplayer games (Hebrew Kahoot, leaderboards, shared flashcard decks) — visible to other players in the same game or deck.

Information collected automatically

• Anonymous device identifier — a random UUID generated on first launch, stored on your device. Used in place of an account so your settings and study progress survive app restarts.
• Device metadata — operating system, model, app version. Helps us debug crashes and improve compatibility.
• App-Store subscription receipt — handled entirely by Apple’s StoreKit if and when you subscribe. We do not see your payment details.

Information collected only with your consent

The following are gated by the Settings → Privacy → Share usage data toggle. You can turn this off any time:

• Approximate location (country and city derived from your IP address, fetched from ipapi.co) — used for analytics and to show usage trends.
• Anonymous in-app usage events — which screens you opened, how long study sessions ran, how many flashcards you reviewed. Linked to your device identifier, not to your name.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Personalise your daily study plan and remember your progress across launches
• Display your name on multiplayer leaderboards and inside shared flashcard decks
• Reply to messages you send via “Chat with Admin”
• Diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and decide which features to improve
• Process App Store subscription transactions (Apple-handled)

We do not sell your information. We do not show third-party advertising. We do not use any tracking SDK, IDFA, or cross-app analytics.

4. Where Your Information Lives

All data above is stored in Google Cloud Firestore and Google Cloud Storage in the “ivirtfly” project. We use these services strictly as data hosts; Google does not access the data for advertising. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by Google’s infrastructure.

YouTube videos embedded in the app are loaded from www.youtube.com using the standard YouTube embedded player. Google may set its own cookies inside the embedded player; that interaction is governed by Google’s privacy policy.

5. Third-Party Services

• Google Cloud Firestore + Storage — data hosting
• ipapi.co — IP geolocation lookup (only when usage-data sharing is on)
• YouTube — embedded video playback
• Apple StoreKit — in-app subscription handling, when applicable

The app does not contact any other third-party server in v1. Optional AI features (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google Gemini) are disabled in this release.

5a. Local Notifications

With your permission, the App schedules local notifications on your device:

• Daily plan reminder — off by default. Turn on in Tools → Fluency Path.
• Trial-ending reminders — when you start the 1-month free trial we schedule two reminders to fire on your device: one 7 days before billing starts, one 24 hours before. These let you cancel via iOS Settings if you no longer want to subscribe. Apple also sends an email reminder before the trial converts.

Local notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. Nothing about the schedule is sent to our servers. You can disable notifications any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Ivrit Yalla.

6. Your Choices

• Turn off analytics — Settings → Privacy → Share usage data. When off, we stop sending usage events and stop fetching your IP-based country/city.
• Change or remove your name — Tools → Profile.
• Restore subscriptions — Tools → Privacy → Restore Purchases. Recovers active subscriptions tied to your Apple ID.
• Manage your subscription — iOS Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions.
• Delete your data — email stephen@chart2020.co.za with the device ID shown in Tools → About. We will erase the corresponding records in Firestore within 30 days.

7. Data Retention

Your device registry record, usage events, and cloud-backup snapshots are kept for as long as the device identifier appears on the device. Messages you send to admin support are kept indefinitely so we can re-read prior context when you write again. Anonymous game-leaderboard scores are kept for the lifetime of the game. You can request deletion at any time; see Section 6.

8. Children’s Privacy

Ivrit Yalla is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, email stephen@chart2020.co.za and we will delete the related data.

9. International Users

Your data is processed on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States. By using the app you consent to this transfer. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection). Email us to exercise any of them.

10. Security

Communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS. Firestore data is encrypted at rest. We do not store passwords because the app does not use accounts. No internet system is 100% secure; we work to minimise the data we hold so any incident’s impact stays small.

11. Changes to This Policy

We will post any changes to this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes will also be announced inside the app on next launch.
